  • What bike will I need?  We recommend a road sports bike or a good touring bike, with good gearing (to master hills or speed) and slimmer rather than wide wheels and tires.  It is OK to acquire this gradually and we can tell you where to get the bits.  We do have regular slower riding mornings and days, which could be increased on demand.
  • Do I have to be a parent to become a member of the club?  Yes a parent or carer.  Teenage children are also participating together with their parents.
  • How fast will you cycle?  We normally ride between 23 and 28 km per hour (14-17 mph).
  • What if I am slower or faster? If you are slower look out for our regular slower speed days. If you are significantly faster (never  under 28 km) then you could be better off joining a club that is specifically geared towards racing and competition (see links for other clubs in the area).
  • What is the point of a parent specific club?  We all have extra pressures and added responsibilities.  Many of us also have but limited time to keep fit, so we help each other in all areas, and train or ride when it is possible.  We discuss schools, education, children’s and parenting issues etc.. during rides.  Living in Camden and Islington, we believe that cycling is the future for us and our children. We also share cycling specific updates relating especially to the themes of cycling in London and cycling with children (e.g. which is the best child seat, which is the best child carrying trike, which is the best bike for children to start cycling, the safest route to X with children etc…)
  • Who are the core members?  Parents (and long term carers of children), some with long sport experience.  Between us, we have experience not only in cycling, but in triathlon, mountaineering, skating, Pilates,  Yoga to name a few sports.  One of the founding members has worked professionally in exercise instruction for over  15 years.
  • What will happen when the kids leave the house, can I remain a club member?  It is a long way off for most of us, but we may then set up the senior or grandparents class.
  • Do you do cycle events with kids? Yes, regularly but our emphasis is the parents.
  • Do you coach or train? No. However this may be something we might look into  in the future, given further registration with the British Cycling Federation (BCF).
  • Are you a registered club?  Not yet.  We agreed to wait until the membership has grown to a certain number, and will then apply for BCF affiliation.
  • Are rides insured? No.  We recommend that members take out a membership of LCC or BCF so that members are individually liability insured.  All participants should read and sign the participation agreement.
